The Judicial Institute is dedicated to diversifying Washington State’s judiciary. Washington’s judiciary does not reflect the richness of the communities it serves, but a fair justice system depends on judges with a wide variety of perspectives, life experiences, and career paths. We provide a comprehensive clinic, other introductory programs, and mentors to develop the skills and connections necessary to seek appointment or election to the bench.
Through our efforts, we strive to make the path to the judiciary more accessible and to increase the number of diverse attorneys seeking and securing judicial positions. And, our judicial system is strengthened when Washington’s judges reflect the richness of the communities and populations they serve. Public trust and confidence is increased, the bench is enriched, and judicial decision-making is enhanced by judges from a variety of perspectives and life experiences.
